Philips Medical Systems has released version 1.2b of its Pinnacle radiation therapy system. The new software, combined with a Pinnacle Pro Sun Blade 2000 workstation, enables more accurate planning of intensity modulated radiation therapy, according to the Andover, MA-based vendor.
Using the Sun Blade with P3IMRT, clinicians will be able to optimize most plans, including 9-beam head and neck treatments, in about 20 minutes, Philips said. The new software is compatible with all existing Pinnacle3 IMRT planning systems.
In other news, Philips has unveiled AcQLōC, a software package designed to help clinicians quickly locate the center and boundaries of a cancerous tumor. The software, which will be available for clinical use in early 2003, will be available as a localization option on the vendor's Acqsim CT scanner.
