Elekta IMRT planner gets 510 (k) clearance

Swedish radiation therapy firm Elekta has received U. S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for its PrecisePlan intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) product. The Stockholm firm said the system utilizes an aperture-based inverse planning technique developed by Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. The protocol creates geometric or dosimetric field segments that conform to the planning target volume while shielding healthy organs.
