Median wait times for radiation therapy in the Canadian province of Ontario dropped by more than a week (16%) in 2005 due to cancer center expansions and new technologies, according to data from the Ontario Cancer Plan.
The report, "Ontario Cancer Plan: 2005 Progress Report," stated that the government has announced four new cancer centers: one each in Niagara, Sault Ste. Marie, Barrie, and Newmarket. In addition, it opened and expanded two facilities: the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre in Mississauga and the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton.
The report and the Ontario Cancer Plan are available on the Cancer Care Ontario Web site.
