Swedish radiation therapy firm Elekta of Stockholm, Sweden, has been selected to supply Somerset Oncology and Haematology Center at Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust’s Musgrove Park Hospital in the U.K. with two Elekta Synergy platform linear accelerators for intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), as well as its PrecisePLAN software packages for treatment planning and information management.

Under terms of the 30-year agreement, Elekta will be responsible for equipment maintenance and replacements, and will supply and manage all of the quality assurance equipment.

The center will open in spring of 2009, and will provide radiotherapy treatment for approximately 1,200 patients annually, according to Elekta.
