Varian finishes Accel deal

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has finalized its acquisition of German scientific research instruments and proton therapy systems developer Accel Instruments.

Varian paid approximately $30 million to acquire the Bergisch Gladbach-based firm, which has approximately $30 million in annual revenues. The Palo Alto, CA-based company said it expects Accel's operations to reduce earnings per diluted share by 6¢ to 7¢ in fiscal 2007, be about neutral in fiscal year 2008, and accretive thereafter.

The business will report to Varian Vice President Lester Boeh.
