Varian gets FDA OK for RPM feature

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for patient position monitoring capabilities for its RPM respiratory gating system.

RPM is used to synchronize imaging and radiation therapy treatment with a patient's respiratory cycle. The new feature detects any motion that compromises the accuracy of the treatment.
