Double-digit orders growth in its oncology systems business helped propel Varian Medical Systems to a 7% revenue gain in its fiscal third quarter.
For the period (end-June 29), the Palo Alto, CA-based firm had revenues of $424 million, up 7% compared with the $396 million turned in last year. Varian had net earnings of $50 million, compared with net earnings of $66 million a year ago.
Operating profitability for the quarter was reduced in part by product and geographic mix shifts, as well as investments in growth initiatives, according to president and CEO Tim Guertin.
