Varian wins Swedish radiotherapy IT contract

Varian Medical Systems' advanced treatment planning and information management software has been chosen as part of a project to integrate all radiotherapy activities in Stockholm, Sweden, including those at Karolinska University Hospital.

The Palo Alto, CA-based company's Aria information and image management software and Eclipse treatment planning software will be installed over the next year to connect and unify the Karolinska, South, and Danderyd Hospitals, which have merged under the name of Karolinska University Hospital.

Using a single software system to manage the three networked hospitals will allow patients to be transferred from one hospital to another, according to the company. Most of the network's treatment machines are Varian Clinac accelerators.
