Radiation therapy device developer Varian Medical Systems will display its newest technology at the 2007 European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) meeting in Barcelona, Spain, next week.
The Palo Alto, CA-based company will showcase its new Smart Segmentation feature for the Eclipse treatment planning system. The automatic software tool, which recently received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is designed to identify and outline organs and other structures of interest within diagnostic images of the thorax and male pelvis.
Varian also will exhibit for the first time its spot-scanning proton therapy technology. Varian acquired the system from Accel Instruments of Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, in January.
