BioLucent spins off breast brachytherapy technology

Mammography pad developer BioLucent of Aliso Viejo, CA, has spun off its SAVI breast brachytherapy technology into an independent company called Cianna Medical, also of Aliso Viejo.

BioLucent made the move after being acquired by women's imaging vendor Hologic of Bedford, MA. The SAVI technology is designed to deliver radiation after lumpectomy surgery.

Cianna will keep the same team that developed the SAVI technology; virtually all of BioLucent's leadership will continue at the new firm, including former BioLucent CEO Steve Gex. Gex will serve in the same capacity at Cianna
