North American Scientific (NAS) of Chatsworth, CA, has announced that its ClearPath-HDR device has been used in a patient for the first time.
ClearPath-HDR is used in accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI) treatment plans, combining balloon brachytherapy with customized dose planning of a multicatheter brachytherapy procedure into one device.
The technology is designed to allow doctors to use a five-day APBI treatment plan, rather than six to eight weeks required for external beam treatment plans. ClearPath is implanted through a single incision and is intended to minimize radiation exposure of nearby healthy tissue.
