Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, plans to launch a new technology for treating cancer patients with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) at the upcoming meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in Los Angeles.
The company's RapidArc radiotherapy technology is designed to increase the speed, precision, and personalization of cancer treatment, Varian said. RapidArc delivers a complete IMRT treatment during one rotation of the treatment machine around the patient, and tailors dose more closely to the size, shape, and location of the tumor.
Varian will also highlight Novalis Tx, a radiosurgery package that combines Varian's HD120 multileaf collimator, its Trilogy linear accelerator, On-Board Imager device, and software with BrainLab's ExacTrac imager, robotic couch, and treatment planning software.
The company will display a new line of HDR afterloaders and VariSeed treatment planning software, called iX, to streamline the planning and delivery of brachytherapy treatments, as well as Eclipse treatment planning with Smart Segmentation automatic contouring and beam angle optimization tools, and Aria oncology information system with electronic medical records (EMRs) for medical and radiation oncology treatment facilities.
