The job vacancy rate for radiation therapists continues to decline, according to the latest survey from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) of Albuquerque, NM.
The ASRT calculates the vacancy rate at 5.4% in 2007, slightly lower than the rate for other radiation oncology professionals. The vacancy rate for radiation therapists, based on survey responses, was lower than the rate of 7% reported by respondents in the ASRT's 2005 staffing survey.
The study also noted that the typical facility's 2007 budget includes money for slightly more than five full-time radiation therapy positions, 1.9 medical oncologists, 1.5 medical dosimetrists, and 1.1 medical physicists.
