Varian wins California proton therapy contract

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has inked an agreement with American Shared Hospital Services (ASHS) to provide proton therapy equipment for a new Bay Area proton beam radiation therapy (PBRT) facility, the company said.

ASHS of San Francisco currently is evaluating several potential sites and is forming a consortium of hospital partners for what should be the first PBRT center in Northern California.

ASHS has previously announced contracts to place PBRT devices at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Orlando Regional Healthcare, and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
