Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, has implemented its RapidArc radiotherapy technology at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in Hong Kong.
The first treatment on a prostate cancer patient took two to three minutes to deliver, which is faster than conventional intensity-modulated radiation therapy, according to Varian.
Doctors at PYNEH treat patients using three Varian linear accelerators, including a Clinac 23EX accelerator equipped with RapidArc radiotherapy technology. The hospital plans to expand the range of RapidArc treatments to include other pelvic tumors and head and neck cancers, Varian said.
