Brachytherapy device developer Xoft said a study presented at this week's American Society of Breast Surgeons annual meeting reported favorable findings with the use of the company's Axxent eBx system.
In the study, 12-month follow-up of 11 patients receiving intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) for early-stage breast cancer showed excellent results in cosmesis and patient satisfaction, according to the Sunnyvale, CA-based firm. In addition, no recurrences have been observed to date, said presenter Dr. Olga Ivanov of Little Company of Mary's Breast Health Center in Evergreen Park, IL.
In other Xoft news, the company has completed 10 new installations of Axxent eBx for the treatment of skin cancer. In addition, more than 100 skin cancer patients have been treated using eBx technology since its introduction less than six months ago, Xoft said.
