Growth in new daily cancer patients and radiation treatment and diagnostic procedures powered revenue for radiation therapy center operator US Oncology of Houston in the first quarter of 2010 (end-March 31).
Revenue advanced 5% to $880.5 million, compared with $842.6 million in the first quarter of 2009. Pharmaceutical services led the company with a 7% increase in revenue to $618.2 million in the first quarter, compared with $577.6 million in the same quarter a year ago.
US Oncology also posted a net loss of $100,000, compared with net income of $1 million in the same quarter of 2009. The company blamed the net loss on incremental interest expense related to the refinancing of senior notes and a line of credit in the second quarter of 2009.
