Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Acuros XB dose-calculation algorithm.
Acuros XB can complete a radiation therapy and radiosurgery treatment plan for Varian's RapidArc system two to three times faster than conventional planning algorithms, according to the Palo Alto, CA-based firm.
The algorithm has been incorporated into Varian's Eclipse treatment planning system and is being showcased at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in San Diego.
