Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems said that the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System is the first medical center in the world to utilize its intrafraction motion review (IMR) technology to continuously monitor tumor location during radiosurgery for lung cancer.
A capability of Varian's TrueBeam linear accelerator, the IMR technology -- also known as "triggered imaging" -- allows visual verification that a tumor is being properly targeted, Varian said.
