Guertin to step down as Varian chief executive

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has announced that its president and CEO, Timothy Guertin, will retire from these positions on September 28, the end of the company's fiscal year.

He will assume the position of vice chairman of Varian's board of directors effective September 29.

Wilson joined Varian in 2005 as president of the company's Oncology Systems division. In October 2011, he was appointed chief operating officer and assumed responsibility for all of Varian's businesses.

Varian also announced that Erich Reinhardt, PhD, former president and CEO of Siemens Healthcare, was appointed to Varian's board effective August 10. Varian is expanding its board by two seats to 11 members.
