Interventional technology developer AngioDynamics announced that Cancer Treatment Centers of America's Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion has acquired a NanoKnife surgical ablation system.
Interventional radiologists at the center are beginning to use the NanoKnife system, which is commonly used to treat difficult-to-access tumors in or near the liver and pancreas, the company said.
Radiologists use guided imagery to help locate a tumor and strategically place up to six needles around the tumor's exterior. NanoKnife delivers a low, direct current of energy to tissue, which punctures several nanometer-sized holes in the tumor, resulting in cell death.
