Women's health firm Advanced Radiation Therapy (ART) has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of all AccuBoost installations held by radiation oncology firm Elekta.
ART manufactures the AccuBoost system, a brachytherapy device that uses real-time image guidance to target radiation dose for early-stage breast cancer patients following breast conservation surgery. AccuBoost's partial-breast irradiation procedure is offered either for breast boost therapy, as part of a whole-breast irradiation regimen, or as a noninvasive monotherapy option for accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI).
Elekta had been ART's worldwide distribution partner for the product. The transaction is designed to enable both companies to focus on their core competencies.
ART has purchased the assets and operating agreements for more than 20 installations in the U.S. With this acquisition, the company expects to increase its support to AccuBoost users.
