Radiation oncology firm Elekta has launched a worldwide center of excellence program to advance cancer management efforts.
Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, OH, is the program's first center. Kettering has become a user of Elekta's Mosaiq oncology information system and the firm's Monaco treatment planning system. Both technologies allow direct communication between Elekta and Kettering's radiation oncology staff, according to the firm.
Kettering also currently uses Elekta's Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion radiosurgery system and its Synergy radiotherapy system. In 2013, the center became the first U.S. hospital to install and begin using Elekta's Versa HD radiation therapy system, Elekta said.
In other Elekta news, the company has appointed Asa Hedin as executive vice president of corporate strategy and Maurits Wolleswinkel as executive vice president of neuroscience.
Hedin has led Elekta Neuroscience since 2007 and will continue to report to Elekta's new CEO, Niklas Savander. She has held executive positions at Siemens Healthcare and Gambro AB. Wolleswinkel joined Elekta Brachytherapy in 2011 from Philips Healthcare and is currently responsible for the company's brachytherapy business line management.
