Radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems introduced its ProBeam Compact proton therapy system at a meeting in China this week.
ProBeam Compact is a single-room system designed to minimize the cost and space requirements for deploying a proton therapy system. It was launched at the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG 53) meeting in Shanghai.
A ProBeam Compact installation includes a space-efficient cyclotron, Varian's Dynamic Peak scanning technology for intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT), a fully rotational gantry, robotic patient positioning tools, and a suite of motion management tools, the firm said. It incorporates an integrated 2D and 3D imager for real-time image guidance, as well as the option of planning and managing treatments using Varian's Eclipse and Aria software.
