Proton therapy developer Mevion Medical Systems has signed an agreement with Philips Healthcare to combine radiation therapy technologies.
The companies have agreed to collaborate by combining the treatment planning capability of Philips' Pinnacle3 radiation therapy planning system with the Mevion S250 proton therapy system using the company's Hyperscan pencil-beam scanning technology. Hyperscan allows tumor volumes to be scanned in a matter of seconds, making treatment delivery less sensitive to patient and tumor motion.
Pinnacle3 currently supports previous generations of Mevion S250, but the new collaboration will focus on adding support for Hyperscan.
