Radiation oncology firm Elekta has won a number of contracts for its radiotherapy system in Africa.
- Hospital da Casa de Seguranca de Presidente da Republica Luanda in Angola will install Elekta's Versa HD linear accelerator, as well as its Elekta Synergy device with Agility and a Flexitron remote brachytherapy afterloading platform, the first such devices in that country.
- Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, will install Elekta's Synergy system, which is the country's first linear accelerator in the public sector.
- Hospital Central de Maputo in Maputo, Mozambique, will install the country's first Elekta Synergy linear accelerator and Flexitron remote brachytherapy afterloading platform.
- Namibian Oncology Centre in Windhoek, Namibia, will install that nation's first linear accelerator, Elekta's Synergy with Agility. Another of these devices will be installed in a new radiotherapy center under construction in Dakar, Senegal.
- In Durban, South Africa, the Oncology Centre has begun treating patients with Elekta's Versa HD system. It is also using the company's Mosaiq oncology information system at 26 sites with remote treatment planning. In September, Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, also in Durban, will begin using two Versa HD linear accelerators together with Mosaiq.
- Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, is installing a Flexitron remote afterloading platform.
- In Harare, Zimbabwe, Harare Onco Care plans to install an Elekta Synergy system with Agility.
To support these users, Elekta continues to invest in its Learning and Innovation Center (LINC) training facility in Cape Town, South Africa, the company said.
