CMS urged to reverse payment cut

More than 200 members of the U.S. Congress are urging the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to reconsider cuts to radiation therapy in the 2016 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) proposed rule.

During the last week of September, Democrats and Republicans in both chambers and the Congressional Black Caucus sent three letters to the agency to reverse a 6% reduction in Medicare payments to freestanding radiation oncology centers.

The lawmakers contend that the lower payments will dramatically reduce care for prostate and breast cancer and significantly harm access to care for all cancer patients.
