Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has expanded its operations in North Africa by opening a new strategic office in Algeria to support customers throughout the region.
The new Varian facility is in the Hydra district of Algiers, employs 16 people, and hosts a training and education center, parts depot, and service center.
Varian has a long history in Algeria, having installed its first linear accelerator in the country 20 years ago. The company now has 21 systems operating across Algeria.
In addition, 18 months ago, Varian entered into an agreement with the Algerian Ministry of Health to equip six cancer treatment centers with advanced technology for radiotherapy and radiosurgery. The first six of these systems, including advanced TrueBeam treatment devices, are scheduled for installation by the end of this year.
