Elekta reaches Gamma Knife milestone

Radiation oncology firm Elekta has surpassed the 1 million mark for the number of patients treated with its Leksell Gamma Knife radiosurgery system.

Leksell Gamma Knife Icon is the newest version of the system. It is designed for patients with brain tumors, vascular malformations, and functional disorders and is currently used in Europe, the U.S., and Asia.

Elekta plans to install Icon at several centers in the coming months, including the following:

  • University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston
  • University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
  • University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA
  • Netherlands Cancer Institute-Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam
  • Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois in Lausanne, Switzerland
