Proton therapy developer Mevion Medical Systems plans to highlight an upgrade to its Mevion S250i proton therapy scanner at the upcoming American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Boston.
The device now includes what Mevion calls Hyperscan with Adaptive Aperture, which delivers a pencil beam that is up to 50 times faster and three times sharper than conventional systems used for intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT), the company said. The proton micromultileaf collimator technology can scan a typical lung tumor in less than two seconds, according to the firm.
Mevion has also announced several new executive appointments:
- Yoel Bakas has been named vice president of sales, Americas. Bakas joins Mevion from Varian Medical Systems.
- Scott Soehl has been named vice president of international sales. Soehl has previously served at Elekta and Impac Medical Systems.
- Curt Kienast is now vice president of global services. Kienast has been promoted from his previous post of senior director of product development at Mevion.
- Chris Dodge has been named field vice president, Americas. Dodge also comes to Mevion from Varian.
- George Rugg is now vice president of business development. Rugg previously served as Mevion vice president of global services.
