ZDi introduces radiation therapy positioning devices

Medical device developer ZDi Solutions is launching a line of patient positioning devices for proton and conventional radiation therapy at the 2016 American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Boston.

The Z-System devices will initially be targeted to U.S.-based radiation therapy facilities, though the company said it will eventually collaborate with providers worldwide. The system consists of the Z-Box custom supportive piece, Z-Tilt patient positioning device, and Z-Square indexing unit, which attaches a patient's foam mold to the Z-Tilt table.

The products are designed to fill the need for strong, lightweight positioning devices. For example, several hands are required for complex cases involving the thorax and the abdomen, and a device was needed to help therapists by replacing all of those hands, the company said.
