Health Canada has issued a Medical Device License (MDL) to radiation oncology vendor Elekta for its Leksell Gamma Knife Icon radiosurgery system.
Icon is the sixth generation of the Leksell Gamma Knife system, according to the company. It can provide single-dose administration or multiple treatment sessions over time, treating structures ranging from very small target sizes of a few millimeters to several centimeters.
Specific to Icon are online Adaptive DoseControl and high-definition motion management technologies. The system reduces the delivery of radiation to normal brain tissue and lowers the extracranial dose by up to 130-fold, the firm said.
