The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has released a new guideline for treating early-stage prostate cancer using external-beam radiation therapy (EBRT). It was published October 11 in Practical Radiation Oncology.
The guideline was developed by a panel that also included representatives from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Urological Association (AUA). It recommends offering patients shortened courses of radiation therapy as an alternative to longer, conventional protocols, and it applies to men who have chosen to undergo EBRT instead of prostatectomy or brachytherapy, ASTRO said.
The guideline was also published in ASCO's Journal of Clinical Oncology and AUA's Journal of Urology.
