The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a one-year contract to the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) to develop quality indicators for radiation oncology treatments.
The VA provides radiation oncology care to more than 16,000 veterans each year. Under the contract, ASTRO will develop indicators for patients with head and neck, breast, and gastrointestinal cancers.
ASTRO has previously partnered with the VA to create quality indicators for lung and prostate cancers. The data from these indicators will be used to perform quality assessments to gauge how individual cases score against national benchmarks and other internal practitioners.
