Radiation oncology firm Accuray has launched CyberKnife S7 system, the latest generation of the company's CyberKnife radiation therapy platform.
The robotic radiation therapy system delivers stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) treatments within 15 minutes. It treats cancerous and benign tumors throughout the body and neurological disorders.
S7 employs Accuray's Synchrony motion-synchronization technology, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to adapt radiation delivery in real-time by adjusting to patient and/or tumor movement. The system's robotic design makes it possible to deliver radiation from potentially thousands of unique angles, according to the company.
The system can deliver submillimeter motion-synchronized hypofractionated treatments in as little as 15 minutes with Synchrony and the company's VOLO Optimizer technology. This gives users higher patient throughput.
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Pennsylvania is the first in the world to treat patients with the new system, according to the company.
