GE Healthcare and Swedish radiation oncology software developer Spectronic Medical have partnered to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based software package that can facilitate radiotherapy planning based only on MR images.
After GE's AIR Recon DL deep-learning algorithm reconstructs MR images, Spectronic Medical's MRI Planner AI application then converts the MR images into synthetic CT images for use in planning radiation oncology procedures, according to the firm. The companies believe that their combined offering enables clinicians to benefit from better soft-tissue differentiation available from MRI images while avoiding the need for CT exams and multimodal image registration.
The software combination can be used in brain, pelvic, head, and neck radiotherapy planning, the vendors said.
