Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) and Swedish radiation therapy quality assurance firm ScandiDos will work together on integrating their radiation therapy dosimetry offerings.
The collaboration enables the companies to work together on product development and marketing, as well as product distribution in selected markets, for a complete radiotherapy quality assurance offering. In the coming months, the specifics of the deal will be developed.
Under the terms of the agreement, IBA will also purchase shares in ScandiDos corresponding to 9.1% of share capital in ScandiDos.
In other news, IBA has signed a deal with Chinese medical isotope provider Chengdu New Radiomedicine Technology to install a Cyclone Ikon system in Chengdu, China. Typically, the end-user price for a Cyclone Ikon is between 15 and 20 million euros ($15.1 million to $20.1 million).
The Ikon system will be used to produce isotopes for use in theranostics and targeted therapies, particularly for germanium-68, iodine-123, and other radioisotopes such as copper-64. These enable the administration of radiation directly to the targeted cells while minimizing side effects.
