Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company, and Nova Scotia Health have entered into a 10-year, $130.9 million (175 million Canadian dollars) oncology partnership.
The monetary commitment will be made through the purchase of hardware, software, digital solutions and services, and contributions to developing a digital imaging concept. It will also see a Varian office established in Nova Scotia. This office will employ a minimum of 60 full-time employees with a 10-year payroll/rent commitment of 50 million Canadian dollars ($37.4 million U.S.).
The overarching goal of the partnership is to improve cancer survival rates in Nova Scotia by building an oncology ecosystem to enhance workflows, improve efficiencies, and make treatments more precise. Since December 2022, Varian and Nova Scotia Health have collaborated to build a unified, connected cancer care network.
Nova Scotia Health will upgrade its radiation treatment systems to the Ethos radiotherapy systems with HyperSight imaging. From its Nova Scotia office, Varian will work to develop a digital imaging concept, with feedback from Nova Scotia Health.
If the digital imaging concept is successfully commercialized, Varian will establish an innovation fund for future Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub projects.
