Biosound Esaote gets FDA OK for Technos

Ultrasound firm Biosound Esaote has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for Technos, the firm's new shared-services ultrasound system.

The Windows NT-based Technos features a fully digital beamformer, proprietary reprogrammable microchip circuitry, and is suitable for multidisciplinary applications. The system's family of broadband curved and linear array multifrequency transducers -- each weighing about four ounces -- covers the complete spectrum of abdominal, obstetric, small parts, and vascular applications, according to the Indianapolis-based firm.

Tissue Enhancement Imaging (TEI), or second-harmonic imaging, will be available as an option when it receives 510(k) clearance. With its integrated Digital Storage Module (DSM), Technos also offers DICOM 3.0-compliant digital archiving capabilities.
