Bone densitometry firm Norland Medical has shipped the first Contact Ultrasound Bone Analyzer Clinical (CUBAClinical) ultrasound bone densitometers to U.S. customers, the White Plains, NY-based firm has announced.
Norland received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for CUBAClinical in January, and already distributes the system in parts of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Pacific Rim.
In other news, Norland reported improved financial results for 1999. The vendor had revenues of $17.8 million, up 23.6% over the $14.4 million reported last year. The company's net loss dipped from $9.7 million in 1998 to a net loss of $2.2 million in 1999.
For the fourth quarter (end-December 31), Norland had revenues of $4.2 million, up 27.2% compared with the $3.3 million posted in the same period in 1998. Norland's net loss was $791,000, compared with a net loss of $4.3 million in 1998. Norland also claims that it improved its market share in the bone densitometry market from 7% in 1998 to 10% in 1999.
