Hand-held ultrasound manufacturer SonoSite reported first-quarter revenue of $8 million, compared with $125,000 in grant money during the same period last year. For the period (end-March 31), SonoSite had a net loss of $3.2 million, compared with a net loss of $5.2 million in the first quarter of 1999, and a net loss of $3.2 million in the fourth quarter of 1999. The Bothell, WA-based firm's balance sheet remains strong. As of March 31, the firm had cash, cash equivalents, and investments of $44.4 million.
