Hand-held ultrasound developer SonoSite has signed an agreement with former parent ATL Ultrasound, giving the Philips Medical Systems company exclusive rights to bundle SonoSite's 180 system with sales of its High Definition Imaging (HDI) ultrasound scanners. The agreement with Bothell, WA-based ATL covers distribution to radiology, general imaging, perinatology, and obstetrics/gynecology markets in U.S. hospitals. The companies signed an earlier agreement in March to bundle sales of SonoSite's SonoHeart hand-held echocardiography unit with ATL's HDI scanners and Philips' cardiac catheterization systems.
The latest deal was made possible by SonoSite's restructuring of a 1999 distribution agreement with PSS World Medical. The restructuring removed exclusivity clauses of the original deal, also allows SonoSite's sales force to sell into private offices as well as hospitals, according to SonoSite, also of Bothell, WA.
