GE beefs up 3-D position with EchoTech buy

GE Medical Systems has acquired EchoTech 3D Imaging Systems, a Munich, Germany-based developer of 3-D software upgrades for ultrasound scanners. GE executives said the purchase will allow the Waukesha, WI, company to add new 3-D capabilities to its Logiq and ViVid scanners.

EchoTech will retain its Munich headquarters, which will become a 3-D center of excellence for GE. EchoTech will continue to develop 3-D technology for scanners made by companies other than GE, according to the firms.
