Ultrasound developer SonoSite has released two new handheld ultrasound scanners, 180Plus and SonoHeart Plus. The systems make use of proprietary miniaturized ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) designs to offer quantitative measurement capability, as well as enhanced image quality and versatility, according to the Bothell, WA-based firm.
New features on the 5.4-pound devices include pulsed-wave Doppler, tissue harmonic imaging, and M-mode imaging. SonoSite has also incorporated ECG capability, as well as a PC Direct Connectivity feature, which allows users to transfer stored images directly from the system to a PC. Both 180Plus and SonoHeart Plus will begin shipping in three weeks.
In other SonoSite news, the firm reported first-quarter revenues of $8.2 million, up 2.5% compared with the $8 million posted in the first quarter of 1999. For the period (end-March 31), SonoSite had a net loss of $6.7 million, compared with a net loss of $3.2 million last year.
