Siemens Medical Solutions' ultrasound division has debuted 3-D imaging capabilities for its Sonoline Adara ultrasound system. 3D Express Ultra-Fast 3-D Rendering will allow Adara users to perform real-time, 3-D rendering of fetal images with any convex or linear-array probe, as well as with some mechanical transducers (Endo-V and Endo-P II) using a linear or rocked acquisition technique, according to the Mountain View, CA-based division.
Other 3-D applications include a coronal view of the uterus that may help physicians identify abnormalities such as endometrial polyps and fibroids, according to Siemens. The firm believes that 3-D volumes of the prostate could also aid in diagnosis and therapy.
3D Express is available as an upgrade or as an option on new systems. Siemens' entire ultrasound product line now includes 3-D imaging capabilities, according to the vendor.
