RCT licenses tissue harmonic imaging to Acuson

Technology investment and commercialization firm Research Corporation Technologies has granted Siemens Medical Solutions subsidiary Acuson and its affiliates a nonexclusive license to patent rights for tissue harmonic ultrasound imaging technology. Tucson, AZ-based RCT manages the harmonic imaging technology for the University of Rochester's Center for Biomedical Ultrasound in Rochester, NY.

At the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound, Dr. Ted Christopher demonstrated that the second and higher order ultrasound tissue harmonic response can produce a sharper image than the traditional first harmonic, according to RCT. RCT received a U.S. patent for the technology in March 2001, with another application pending.
