Philips Medical Systems is upgrading its HDI 5000 ultrasound scanner by adding improved ergonomics, an increase in processing power, and several other features. The system was originally introduced in 1999 by ATL, which Philips had acquired a year earlier.
The Andover, MA-based vendor said HDI 5000 will have what it calls iSCAN Intelligent Optimization. The one-button feature combines several control-panel functions normally needed to optimize 2-D image quality and Doppler spectral waveform, decreasing variability of image quality among users.
