JRCERT to accredit sonography education

Ultrasound education will soon be controlled by the same organization that accredits radiologic technologists in other modalities. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) of Chicago has voted to begin accreditation of sonography educational programs.

Early next year, JRCERT will assemble a focus group to explore standards and issues leading to accreditation. The committee will solicit input from surveys, professional meeting forums, and postings on the JRCERT Web site. The process is expected to take place over the next two to three years.

JRCERT is the sole accrediting body for programs in radiography and radiation therapy. Its MRI education standards will become effective in 2003.
