GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., has signed a deal with global dairy company Fonterra to promote bone health awareness in Asia.
Under a three-year deal between the companies, the firms will work to make osteoporosis screenings and bone health products available to women in Asia, where osteoporosis is a major health issue. Under the partnership's first program, the Anlene Bone Health Check, the companies will provide free ultrasound osteoporosis screenings to an estimated 3 million people in nine countries in Asia over the next two years.
The program will capture a comprehensive bank of data on bone health that will be shared with agencies concerned with osteoporosis, such as the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). The program may be extended to Australia and New Zealand in a second phase.
Fonterra's Anlene brand has made significant investments in bone health research and development, according to the companies. The company recently launched a new bone nutrition produce line.
