GE adds to cardiac offerings at AHA show

GE Healthcare is releasing a number of new systems at this year's annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA) in Orlando, FL, including a new Signature Vivid S6 cardiovascular ultrasound scanner.

The new mobile system is designed to serve as a dedicated cardiovascular scanner for various care areas, from the hospital and clinic to the operating room or physician's office, according to the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor. It includes quantitative tools from GE's Vivid 7 scanner, including tissue velocity imaging (TVI) and tissue synchronization imaging (TSI), as well as stress-echo and transesophageal echo (TEE) capabilities, GE said. Other features include a 17-inch LCD monitor, four active transducer connectors, and room for on-board peripherals in a console weighing less than 160 lb.

GE has also added new features to its Vivid e and Vivid 7 Dimension systems. The company's Vivid 7 Dimension '08 release features GE's Ultra-Definition Imaging technology, which combines image acquisition and processing functionality designed to yield optimal image quality with one-button control, according to the vendor.

A Clarity Control feature combines multiple 2D settings to reduce noise, and provides image personalization for 4D, cardiac, and vascular imaging, GE said. Other new features for Vivid 7 Dimension include a new set of 4D visualization tools, which support an intuitive impression of morphologic anatomic structures in a 3D image, GE said.

GE's Vivid e '08 release adds an integrated, three-connector docking cart, as well as stress-echo capability. It also includes three new probes: P2D (pencil probe), 9L (vascular), and 8C (abdominal). Tissue Doppler imaging is also supported.

In cardiology image management developments, GE is launching version 4.1 of its Centricity Cardiology software at the meeting. The new release allows labs to report implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) outcomes to the American College of Cardiology ICD (ACC-ICD) registry, GE said.
